Still Having Issues With My Throat
February 10, 2009
“The mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mother’s side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and become fully independent.”
-Erich Fromm
I went back to see my ENT this afternoon.
My uvula is swollen again. He’s not sure why. It may be from snoring, but I don’t think I’m snoring. He said if I’m snoring, it can cause my uvula to swell. The swelling causes me to snore which makes my uvula stay swollen. So it’s a lovely cycle. He said that it may also be something else causing the swelling like acid reflux. He put me on a acid reducer for the next month to see if that will help. Especially if I’m not snoring. He also said that my uvula is pretty long and he can clip it to make it shorter. That doesn’t sound fun. He said it’s nothing compared to what I’ve been though. lol
My second problem is that I have a tight area on the right side of my soft palate. It feels like something is pulling tight there when I try to open my mouth. Last night I tried to eat a Whopper and that was difficult. That is being caused my tight scar tissue. Over the next 6 months the scar tissue should be more flexible and the area won’t be so tight. If it is really bothering me or is still causing issues after 6 months, he can cut the part that is connected so it’s not so tight. It would also just be an office procedure under a local, so not so bad.
My third and biggest issue is that I’m having difficulty swallowing. It just started over the last few days. When I try to swallow a bite of food, I have to take a drink to get it down. It sucks. He said that the swelling (since it’s fairly minimal) and the tightness shouldn’t be causing that. He’s afraid that it may be my MS. We knew I could have complications with my MS when I went under general anesthesia. I have an appt at the end of the month with my neurologist so if I’m still having issues, I’ll talk to him about it. My ENT said I may have to get a swallow study done if it’s still causing me issues.
So that’s where I stand now…pain is pretty much gone. So that’s great news!
