Welcome 2009!

January 1, 2009

After Christmas, while I was returning a few things to Barnes and Noble, I stumbled on their 50% off sale. Well, that’s not quite right, I didn’t stumble over anything I seem to have a 6th sense with finding sales. It also helped that all the 50% off stuff was right there lining the walk to the cash register. I was able to resist almost all of it. I was very tempted to buy the girls some more books, but their home library is already busting at the seams and they have plenty of Christmas books anyway. The thing that ended up catching my eye was the section of page a day calendars. I picked up one that I thought fit me well for many reasons. It was called, I Love You, Daughter. And is pink and girly and tiny and cute. It has quotes and inspirations about daughters, mothers, parenting, love etc. It called to me and was irresistible. So I’m going to share these daily thoughts with you all though my blogging.

So let’s start at the very beginning…

Keep true to the dreams of thy youth.

~Friedrich von Schiller

Dreams evolve, change, grow and are sometimes abandoned as we go through life, but we must always remember to hold onto some kind of a dream. Jon and I are lucky enough to be living our dream. We have each other, three healthy, brilliant, beautiful daughters, a wonderful home, enough money to pay our bills, extended family who love us, etc. We really are blessed.

So I took this as an opportunity to ask my youth about their dreams. No matter their age, children have dreams. These are the answers I got:

K (age 5): My dream is to be a mermaid and to see snow.

E (age almost 4): My dream is to grow up to be a big strong girl and be a ballerina.

M (age 2 1/2): I want all my dreams to come true. (As you see, we’ve read our fair share of fairy tales around here. She also refused to expand any further on the matter!)
