Mama Hawk
March 31, 2011
On the 7th floor of my husband’s office sits a huge nest on the fire escape.
Inside the nest is a mama bird. It’s a a red tailed hawk. She’s sitting on 2 eggs. Her mate comes along and feeds her. About once a day she leaves the nest, but I haven’t seen the eggs. I was surprised by how big the sticks are that they used to build the nest.
I didn’t want to startle her and raise the blinds or anything. I tried to sneak up on her, but I think she saw or heard me.
Now I’m pretty sure she heard me!
I’m going to see about going back once the eggs hatch and see if I can catch some pictures of the baby hawks. They stay in the nest for about 6 weeks.
