K is learning to read!
September 25, 2008
I’m so excited about this. Jon and I both love to read and we have always read to our girls. It’s so fun to see K blossom here lately and enjoy books on a different level. Every night K and I get in her bed and read a chapter from a Junie B. Jones book. She is loving it and is also starting to pick out some words in the text that she recognizes. Soon, she will be getting a sight word list sent home from Kindergarten, but for now I’m doing it myself. Today I made her some flash cards with sight words on it for her to learn. I found some lists online. Gotta love the internet! Her first 20 words are: the, to, and, he, a, I, you, it, of, in, was, said, his, that, she, for, on, they, but and had. Sounds like good words to know! Wish us luck with the flash cards!

That’s so exciting! Yea Katelyn!!!!
Kaden and I have been reading Junie B at night too–he got tickets to a Junie B play for his b-day too. I’m probably more excited than he is!LOL As far as sight words, Dolch is a pretty commonly used list. If you search the internet you can find all kinds of fun ways to practice the words!

Thanks, Brandy! I’ll have to look for fun ways to practice them for her. So far she knows 7 of them.
