ENT appointment for M

November 5, 2008

Yesterday, I took little M for her routine appt to check her tubes. We go every 3 months. I knew from when I looked in there last week, the right one was out and just sitting in her ear canal. It was confirmed by her ENT. I was really hoping to make it one more winter with these tubes. She’s had them 1 1/2 years, so they have done very well, and at least one is still working well. The bad news is that she already has fluid collected in her right ear. So far, it’s not infected, but it’s pretty likely that she will start with the ear infections all over again. The tube has only been out about a week and already there’s fluid. That bites. So we are giving her Nasonex daily to help her nose to stay clear which will help her ears. I hope it works! My baby was miserable with ear infections all the time! She also had hearing loss because of the constant fluid in her ear. Even if she didn’t have an ear infection, she had fluid. I sure don’t want her to go through that again! She has only had 2 ear infections since she got her tubes. We are hoping to make it through this winter with no infections and then by spring/summer the risk for them is less. She used to have fluid and infections year round, so getting to warmer months may not help much. So the plan right now is to give her the Nasonex and follow up in a month. If she continues to get ear infections or the fluid just won’t drain, he will put in another tube. Once kids get to be about 3 or 4 their eustachian tubes start to point downwards instead of more parallel so if we could just make it through this winter…
