Three Car Links

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 04 Jun 2009

We have all heard the general rule about staying a certain amount of car lengths away from the car in front of you while driving down the road.  Nobody likes a car too close on their rear.

Jon saw this homemade bumper sticker. He got the best picture that he could of it while also keeping his distance.

Wow, three car links? I’m not sure the distance of a car link.

I looked up Georgia Code and it actually states:

The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.

I don’t see a thing about car links.

Makes you wonder how they passed the driver’s test to get their license.

Field Day Fun

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 14 May 2009

Last week was Katelyn’s Field Day at school. She had a blast and was one tired girl when she got home that day. It was very well organized and it turned out to be a cooler day for them to be out. We enjoyed getting to go spend some of her school day with her.

Shooting hoops

Soccer Skills

Here her class is winning at Tug of War. They were so cute, but they did not know when to stop. They were dragging the other class on the ground. I also noticed Katelyn must concentrate better with her tongue sticking in the empty space once occupied by teeth.

Today, Emily had her turn at preschool field day. They celebrated the end of school with an icecream party after the field day events.

Three legged race

Potato Sack Race

It was hot and sunny, so she borrowed my sunglasses.

It was a wonderful way to end the school year and we are looking forward to the best summer!

What Talent!

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 30 Apr 2009

This morning, the girls were all at the table eating their cereal. I was busy making sure I had all my ducks in a row because it was my morning for carpool. All of a sudden I hear Madison saying “Hello! Hellooo! Heeellllloooo! Hhheeeelllloooo!” and I knew that for some reason she was trying hard to get my attention. So I glanced over to the table and this is what I saw.

This is why I keep my camera handy.

Where My Five Little Ducks Went

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 16 Apr 2009

Every Wednesday we get a folder home with Katelyn’s school work in it. There is a section of papers for us to sign and send back. Last week I found this book in that section. I thought it was so cute that she wrote and illustrated her own book. We are constantly amazed at her imagination and impressed with what a kindergartener does in school these days. Before I sent it back to school, I snapped quick pictures of the book. I think it is darn cute for a 5 year old. They are taught to write phonetically, so some of her worlds are misspelled. I translated. :)

The first duck went to karate school.

The second duck went to the pond.

The third duck went to jail.

The fourth duck went to Mrs (her teacher’s name-I deleted the name) to give her a hug.

The fifth duck went to a house.

This was on the back of the last page. I just love the duck head!

The Cherry Blossoms are Blooming

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 26 Mar 2009

I love the spring when all the trees are alive with new growth and flowers. The cherry blossom trees are especially pretty this year. I stopped on the side of the road to take these today. Our little cherry blossoms are still twigs with a few green leaves. Maybe next year we will have blossoms.

Snow is a Novelty Around Here

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 05 Mar 2009

We are not used to snow in these parts. Earlier this week we were pretty surprised with the snow flurries coming down. We got all the kids out of the car at Walmart just to walk through the flurries. We were not sure they would last longer than a few minutes, surely they wouldn’t collect on the ground.

When we got out of Walmart, it was still coming down, but as we thought, it wasn’t sticking to the ground. After we got home, we put the girls down for a nap. I went to bum some sweetened condensed milk from a friend because I was too lazy to go back to the store. (I was making the best banana pudding ever!).

I looked out the window while I was beating my cream cheese and it was snowing like crazy. We went and woke the kids up. It was their first time to see and play in snow and I was not about to let them sleep through it. K was really excited about playing and wasn’t taking a nap anyway.

The other two were pretty cranky and didn’t really care about the snow after all. I don’t think they knew what to do with it. We went out for a bit and I went back in and put the two little ones back to bed-they actually went back to sleep!

K and I spent the next bit building a snowman and having snowball fights. It was a great afternoon. We topped it off with her drinking some hot chocolate and I got back to making that banana pudding.

The snow was gone the next day and it’s back up to 70 degrees around here. That’s my kind of winter!

Catching snowflakes

I just love this picture of her. She was having so much fun!

I even took pictures of them in the parking lot, just so we had snow pics!

Ready to go finish that nap.

Spring is in the Air

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 26 Feb 2009

It’s beginning to feel a lot like spring around here. I’ve dusted off my sewing machine and made an outfit for K. It definitely had a spring feel to it. I made a skort from the pink and white floral fabric. Skorts are still cute when you’re 5. She picked it out herself and I appliqued a bird on the shirt. I didn’t make the shirt, they are just too cheap and easy to pick up and make cute. I was really happy with the way the bird turned out. I think she will get a lot of use out of this outfit this summer. I had her try it on and model it for me this afternoon. She’s such a silly model!

Then later this afternoon, I got my strawberry plants planted. We will probably have a few more nights of below freezing temps, so I will cover them then. I’m excited that I have them in the ground though. I ended up putting them in our front flower bed. I hope they do well. They already have flowers and little strawberries on them! I will have to take them off though and let the little plants thrive for a bit before producing fruit. This will be our first year growing strawberries. I’ve only grown tomatoes and peppers before. We love strawberries though and I have about 25 plants out there. I hope it’s enough!

Sleeping Beauty

Filed under: Photo Story Friday - 19 Feb 2009

As I’ve mentioned before, we love books in this house. It does not matter how busy we are, a day never goes by when we don’t read something. Usually we read multiple books to the girls and they get a final bedtime story after they are all clean and snuggly in their pajamas. Then after tucking them in their beds, they tend to look at more books before heading off to dreamland. Every now and then when we go to check on them later in the evening, we find this. Poor thing, she comes by this naturally. Her Mommy and Grammy both have the same habit.

A Hair Raising Day

Filed under: Photo Story Friday, Random Stuff From My Life - 12 Feb 2009

It was sunny and 70 degrees last weekend so I took the girls up to my mom and dad’s house. Jon was at drill this weekend so he had to miss out on the fun. My mom packed a picnic lunch and we headed to one of the playgrounds in their neighborhood. A couple of minutes after we got there another family showed up. Turns out that it was a little girl from E’s class! They moved here a few months ago and last week moved into my mom and dad’s neighborhood. They also brought a picnic lunch and also have 3 little girls. Their oldest is the one in E’s class. Then they have one about 6 months younger than M and a baby. So it was fun for the girls to have some friends to play with out there. I took my camera and snapped a few shots. I wore them out and packed them up to head home for a nap. We all had a great time!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures.

Little M

Sweet E

My big girl K

Finally for the hair raising part…you just have to love static hair pictures. They are always great!

Valentine’s Day Topiary

We don’t have much in the way of Valentine’s Day decorations around here. I saw this idea in a magazine I read while I was recovering from surgery. I caught up on many magazines during those two weeks!

During nap time today, I whipped up this faux topiary. I cut hearts out of felt and used pins to attach them to a Styrofoam ball.

Then I stuck the ball on a dowel and into some Styrofoam in the little pail I found. I added a few rocks to the pail for added weight. Then I cut strips of paper and curled them to fill the rest of the pail.

Finally, a few ribbons finished the topiary.
