Advent Calendar Ideas
December 1, 2012
I can’t believe it’s already Dec 1st! I need to get my rear in gear and put together some sort of advent calendar for the girls. Each year I think I’m going to have my act together by now and have some sort of really cute calendar, but here we are in December and I have nothing. I need a quick and easy since the countdown has already begun. I searched the web and these are my two favorite ideas for my last minute scramble.
Printable Bible Verses
You can get your free printable from Happy Home Fairy and then use the suggestions from Julie to add a verse to your child’s lunch box, let your elf deliver it each day or just make it part of your dinner conversation.
Books
I’ve seen this idea all over and I love it. Wrap 24 Christmas books up and read one each day until Christmas. We pack away all of our Christmas books with the rest of our decorations and I need to drag them out this year and do this. I think we have somewhere close to 24. If not, I’m going to make a quick trip to the dollar store.

We usually wait until Christmas Eve after the girls go to bed to put their wrapped gifts under the tree. So I like the idea of putting the Advent calendar books under the tree.
Next year I will have a cute Christmas countdown for the girls. I love the idea of making one out of felt, like this one from Homemade by Jill. It reminds me most of the wooden one we had growing up. Where is that thing, Mom?
So until my permanent Advent calendar is complete, I’m going to start saving up ideas. You can see more fun ideas on my Pinterest Advent Calendar board.
Enjoy your first weekend of December!

I do put together Advent calendar for two families. Since all of my grandsons are too young, I usually do candies for them. I put a few in a small ziplock bag for day 1 and so on until there are 24 bags. Each are wrapped in Christmas wrapping and label of the dates. The grandsons look forward to their annual Advent Calendar from their “Oma”.

We have a two part advent calendar, the first part is a chain made by wrapping pieces of candy I used hersheys kisses in plasticplastic wrap tying off each day with twine and a small ornament we then cut off each days candy and put the ornaments on the tiny tree we have!

I like the idea of putting the ornaments on a tiny tree. I have several small trees and I could number little balls to put up or something too…hmm…. Thanks for the idea!
